The girls love this story with its terrible jokes and nasty women. There are lots of little family jokes here: the tired, old Grandad, the sparky Uncle and the kind Oma. It was written in the terrible year of the Boxing Day tsunami but the idea for the toy collection comes from an initiative at Canterbury College when a former student who was with the Australian Armed Forces in East Timor asked the school to collect toys for the children there. The students were incredibly generous and for one exciting week, the foyer of the school office was crowded with boxes of toys being prepared for East Timor.
